Values & Morals

Many kids lack adult influence to help them determine that where they stand on important life issues and what they believe that will shape their future decisions. Mentors offer kids a level playing field to discover, examine, and determine their personal values and moral code.

“In large measure, what’s causing this crisis of American childhood is a lack of connectedness. We mean two kinds of connectedness — close connections to other people, and deep connections to moral and spiritual meaning.”
“What can help most to solve the crisis are ‘authoritative communities’… groups that live out the types of connectedness that our children increasingly lack. They are groups of people who are committed to one another over time and who model and pass on at least part of what it means to be a good person and live a good life. Renewing and building them is the key to improving the lives of U.S. children and adolescents.”
